Broward & Miami Dade Counties Reopen

Broward and Miami Dade County Officials Initiate Phase One Of Reopening Their Economies

Broward County Community leaders plan to reopen restaurants and hair salons starting this coming Monday, May 18th. Miami-Dade County is reopening its businesses on the same date. South Florida’s local authorities will initiate phase one as the number of Covid19 cases and hospitalizations have decreased in the past fourteen days.

There are multiple challenges ahead of this reopening. Local officials recognize that their economies are suffering and that their people need to get back to work. However, authorities also want locals to follow all necessary sanitary precautions to prevent future virus breakouts.

Restaurants and Hair&Nail Salons will reopen at 25-50% of their capacity. The local beaches will remain closed until further notice.

District commissioners seem to have different opinions on reopening the beaches. For Example, District 4, Commissioner Lamar Fisher, supports reopening the beaches for swimming, walking, running, or exercising. Fisher believes that our communities can replicate similar social distancing rules that other coastal cities in Florida have in place. On the other hand, District 1 Commissioner Nan Rich recommends keeping the beaches closed until the cities complete phase one.

Is Broward County Ready For Hurricane Season 2020?

Great news for people in South Florida! Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties can resume their business activities starting May 18th. And, if Covid-19 rates of infection and hospitalizations continue to decrease, South Florida could initiate phase two of reopening its economy. We should expect Government officials to monitor the situation closely.

Even though people are ready to get back to work, people may not be ready to face major hurricanes. As catastrophic as this may sound, the reality is that hurricanes will not wait on the pandemic to dissipate to run their natural course. Hurricanes happen with or without people’s consent. People’s hurricane preparations are the only resource they have against any future storms.
